POSTGRAD LIKES: POPSUGAR MUST HAVE BOX - JULY FAVORITES

This month, POPSUGAR sent me a Must Have Box to try out some new products. I love getting the Must Have Box, it's always full of awesome product that is useful and fun. Here are my favorites for July.

POPSUGAR MUST HAVE FAVORITES

1.  Pintrill, Pineapple Pin $12 -- Pins have really  been making a comeback and I'm so happy about it. I loved this little pineapple pin to add to my denim jacket for a fun touch.
2. Sunny Life, Swan Drink Floatie $18 -- I loved this floating swan drink holder, can't wait to bring it on a bachelorette party next month!
3. Michael Stars, Porcelain Skinny Scarf $30 -- This skinny scarf from Michael Stars is perfect to tie on a bag or bandana-style around my neck. The black and white print is perfectly neutral.
4. European Wax Center, Brow Highlighter $18 -- I had never tried any European Wax Center products until this arrived in my box, and it's amazing! It's a nice champagne color, so it is not too white, and blends really nicely. I also use it in the inner corners of my eyes and on my cheek bones. A+.
5. House of Pom, Emojii Cocktail Napkins $25 -- These napkins just make me happy. They are featured front and center on my bar cart right now.

If you want to try out POPSUGAR's Must Have Box, use code 'SHOP5' for $5 off your first box!

POPSUGAR sent the Must Have Box in exchange for review. All opinions are my own.

POSTGRAD LOVES: CASLON

Yesterday, as I was walking through Nordstrom, a rack of clothes caught my eye. Judging on the style, I thought it was Splendid. To my surprise, it was actually Caslon, and in house Nordstrom brand. From what I knew about Caslon, I was pleasantly surprised by the pieces. The current collection is full of linens in breezy blues and neutrals, boho accents, and really relaxed silhouettes. I picked out a few of my favorite pieces below, but seriously, check it out next time you are at Nordstrom! Everything looked even better in person. I am really crushing on the jumpsuit (I can never have enough), the sandal, and the peplum top below.

Even better, the pieces are pretty reasonably priced and I have found that Nordstrom brands go on sale pretty frequently.

POSTGRAD LOVES: LE SPECS

I always have my eyes peeled for brands that offer quality products at affordable prices. Sunglasses can be a difficult one, as most brands tend to operate on either the designer end or the very cheap end. Le Specs falls squarely in the middle, with most pairs under $70. They offer a wide selection with styles that range from classic to uber trendy, with tons of pairs that are a good mix of both.

I ordered a pair from the Shopbop Friends and Family sale and I can't wait for them to arrive just in time for the weekend. The sale continues through April 7th and everything is 25% off!

POSTGRAD LOVES: LE SPECS

1. No Smirking $79
2. Neo Noir, $59
3. Savanna, $59 (I ordered this pair!)
4. Le Debutante, $69
5. Le Debutante, $64
6. Naked $64
7. Hermosa, $31

WEDDING GUEST DRESSES UNDER $50

Everyone is well aware that attending a wedding can be very expensive. Then if you have multiple in one season it starts adding up. I rounded up dresses under $50 that are stylish and versatile so you don't have to stress over what to wear to any upcoming nuptials.

WEEKEND TRAVEL: SANTA BARBARA EDITION

Looking forward in 2016, it's looking like it will be the year of weekend trips. I already have two bachelorettes and two weddings lined up, plus a few trips to see my family, and hopefully a few other fun ones as well. This weekend I am headed down to Santa Barbara to have a reunion with my college girlfriends. We try to get together at least once a year, and it's always a blast.

Santa Barbara will always be very special to me. Besides the sentimental parts, I also love the city's architecture, the restaurant, and the blend of old school and hip areas. In general, it's a very chic locale, while still maintaining a laid back and casual vibe. I am looking forward to reflecting that in my wardrobe while enjoying the sunny and 75 weather.

SB WEEKEND
Dress, Asos $26
Bikini, Triangl $99
Panama Hat, Sole Society $25
Sandals, Billabong $45
Necklace, Madewell $28
Bag, Sole Society $55
Tank, Equipment $98
Weekender, Lo and Sons $120

To Note: I know I have mentioned the Lo and Sons Catalina bag multiple times on PGIP, and I still really, really love it. It's a nice sturdy cotton that can be machine washed (!!) and the bottom compartment really comes in handy for shoes or toiletries. If you are in the market for a weekend bag, I highly, highly, highly recommend this one.

POSTGRAD FITNESS: SPRING REFRESH

How is everyone's 2016 fitness goals going? Still sticking to your New Year's Resolution? I've dialed back the intensity, but I have been very consistent with my workouts for the last two-ish months. With Spring weather already here and daylights savings around the corner, I am looking forward to getting back outside to work out. With that, I have had my eye on some new gear as well.

POSTGRAD FITNESS: SPRING REFRESH

1. Electrolyte Tablets, NUUN $6-- Add these electrolyte loaded tablets to your water to help with dehydration. Essential if you are a long distance runner.
2. Hat, Patagonia $35 -- I just bought this hat for my boyfriend, but I am already planning on borrowing it for hikes and kayaking. The color combo is so fun.
3. Crops, Alo Yoga $36 -- My fitness closet is lacking some fun, bright colored crops so I've got my eye on this pair. I've heard great things about Alo and this pair is on fantastic sale.
4. Sports Bra, Forever 21 $15 -- I just snagged this sports bra last weekend, and so far I am really liking it. However, if you need a lot of support, this probably isn't the bra for you.
5. Yoga Towel, Good Karma Zone $13 -- I also just got a yoga towel to help with sliding during class. So far this one is working well and is very budget friendly.
6. Hair Ties, L. Erickson $12 -- My thick hair does not like to stay put while working out. After reading the reviews on these hair ties, I am going to give them a shot, although they are pricey. I am hoping that they are the answer to my hair-prayers.
7 Daypack, REI $20 - I can't wait to get out for more hikes this season. This day pack carries all the necessities and is compatible with reservoirs, so you can easily stay hydrated.

Let's be real, Valentine's Day in a relationship is just not that exciting. While I think it's a great occasion to celebrate your relationship, it's a pain to get dinner reservations, then pay a ton for a special Valentine's menu, etc. etc. Each year, I am much more excited to put together gifts and goodies for my Galentine's! Let's be real, girls appreciate all the cute stuff wayyyyy more anyways.

GALENTINES GIFTS

1. Chocolate Dipped Treats - An easy and wallet friendly DIY!
2. C'est La Vie Makeup Bag, Forever21 $6 -- A good mantra on a cuter bag.
3. Wine Tote, Plate and Pencil $19 -- I always love a good pun, and this bag is perfect to use year round.
4. Key Tag, $15 -- Truth. Tacos > Everything.
5. Sheet Mask, TonyMoly $4 -- I love these sheet masks, and they are incredibly inexpensive. I always throw them into gifts as fun extras.

Some of my favorite places to shop for cards are Etsy, Paper Source, and local gift stores. I picked out a few of my favorites below, and I'll have some Galentine's Goodies on PGIP tomorrow.

LAST MINUTE GIFTS

Anyone else out there a last minute shopper? If you are looking for any last minute gifts, I've got some cute picks under $25 for ya.

A couple notes on the picks:

  • Barista's Guide to Coffee - I already bought this book as a gift, and it is seriously incredible (if you are very into coffee). It is very, very thorough and informative. If you have a coffee love in your life, I can't reccomend this book more.
  • Voluspa "Crane Flower" - This scent is a one size fits all. It's a rich smell, but still light. I've given this candle as a gift numerous times. Fun fact, Voluspa candles also double as a hard perfume!
  • Cards Against Humanity - This is another crowd favorite. I have a blast every time  I play CAH and would actually love to get it as a gift myself! However, it's wrapped under the tree for another recipient :).
  • Travel Coffee Mug - I brought this for my book club gift exchange and it was a hit. The print is different famous works of literature, so it's a great gift for any bookworm.

PACKING FOR CHARLESTON

On Saturday I will be headed to Charleston and I have been mentally planning outfits since the trip was booked. It will be quick trip, but the itinerary is jam packed. I'm depending on smart packing and versatile pieces to keep my looks easy yet put together.

PACKING FOR CHARLESTON

Outfit #1 - Travel Day: A cozy cardigan and sneakers are a must for comfortable travel wear. I also have been wearing these Gorjana ear climbers a lot because they are the perfect balance between subtle and statement.

Outfit #2 - Exploring Town: Since it's holiday season, a little festive color is in order. This red turtleneck is perfect for strolling around Chuck Town. The scarf also doubles as a wrap in case it gets too cold.

Outfit #3 - Dinner and Drinks: The combination of a statement earring, moto jacket, and lace up flats is the perfect balance of feminine and edgy. It also strikes a great balance between dressy and casual when you aren't sure how formal the restaurant is.

Outfit #1: Earrings, Gorjana $40 - Sweater, Oasap $24 - Tee, J. Crew Factory $25
Leggings, Zella  $52 - Bag, Azalea $69 - Sneakers, Superga  $65
Outfit #2: Scarf, Old Navy $10 - Turtleneck, J. Crew Factory $44 - Ring, Madewell $26
Jeans, Gap $28 - Boots, Frye $300 - Bag, Ted Baker $89 - Sunglasses, Warby Parker $95

DECEMBER BOOK CLUB

Reading has always been one of my favorite hobbies but not one that I often discuss in this space (or perhaps ever?). Book Club is going to be a new, once a month series to discuss the books I read for the month and a short review. In January I will recap the December books plus my thoughts on them, and introduce the new books for the month. If you are reading any of the same books please let me know!

DECEMBER BOOK CLUB

1. HONY Stories - This book is portrait photos and quotes that give you insight in the subjects life. If you follow the HONY page on Facebook, you know what to expect. I'm about 3/4 of the way through, it's a very quick read. It really reinforces the fact that you never know what people are going through. I definitely recommend this book.

2. Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead -  This was the pick for my real life book club this month. I haven't yet started it, but I am very excited. The author has one of the most viewed Ted Talks of all time on this very topic. She has done extensive research on vulnerability, and how it is essential in our relationships and lives.

3. Always Pack a Party Dress - I just snagged this book on major sale at Anthropologie after having it in my Amazon cart for awhile. It is my fun pick of the month. I am really fascinated with the fashion industry, so I'm excited to dive in to Brooks memoir of her career trajectory that eventually landed her as the Fashion Director of Barneys.

POSTGRAD LOVES: SWEATER JACKETS

One of my must have items for fall is a sweater jacket (...a swacket...?). It's perfect for those mid temperature days that aren't quite cold enough for a full coat. Plus, you get the coziness of a sweater that twill or denim jackets don't offer. For a work appropriate look, go for a structured, fitted sweater-jacket and for a daytime look opt for a slouchier silhouette.

POSTGRAD LOVES: SWEATER JACKETS

Work
Sweater Jacket, TopShop $68 - Chambray, Madewell $72
Pants, J. Crew $180 - Shoes, Zara $30 - Bag, Aldo $55
Earrings, Gorjana $40 - Rings, Gorjana $32

Weekend
Dress, Zara $20 - Sweater, Madewell $80
Bag, Genuine People $47 - Booties, Jeffrey Campbell $200
Rings, Gorjana $32 - Sunglasses, H&M $12

WORTHY WEEKENDERS

A good weekend bag is a travel essential. I purchased the Lo & Sons Catalina bag at the beginning of the Summer, and I have been recommending it left and right. I've taken it on a few trips and it has held up extremely well and also made packing a breeze. When I was initially looking at weekenders, I found too many bags were a true duffle, just one big compartment with no smaller pockets which makes packing a complete headache and mess.

The key components to a good weekend bag:

  • Separate compartment for shoes and toiletries.
  • Square shape (so you don't hit people with your long duffle)
  • Both shoulder straps and a crossbody strap
  • Sturdy fabric or leather (extra points if it's easy to clean)

LACE-UP GLADIATORS

Image via WhoWhatWear

I'm loving the ankle wrap sandal trend, especially with a gladiator sandal. However, because of how an ankle strap cuts off your leg, it can be difficult to find a flattering pair. Try a nude or tan pair close to your skin tone and play around with different ankle strap positions. And don't tie them too tight!

LACE-UP GLADIATORS

Steve Madden $70 - J. Crew $88 - Gap $40
Splendid $108 - J. Crew $130 - Loeffler Randall $107
