FRIDAY LINKS

It's Friday already! Woooooohoooooooooooo!

Up on the agenda, I have a Super Bowl Snacks Cooking Class, some workout classes, and the Superbowl on Sunday. I'm a little bummed I don't get to deck myself out in my teams gear, but I am looking forward to trying the recipes I learn at the cooking class.

BEACH VIBES

I feel like every time I decide how I want my room decorated, I have a complete change of heart. I think that this has to do with the idea of decorating being 'permanent'. I know obviously I will not have the same decor for the rest of my life, but it's just not the same as clothes. You can't change your home depending on your mood that morning. So, I'm adding another possible bedroom set up to the list.

Just a note, I have been admiring Heather Day's art for quite awhile now, and I hope to be purchasing one of her pieces in the near(ish) future. A full post about her coming soon!

MARBLE MANIA

Generally, interior design trends are not something I keep up with. I find it a bit overwhelming, but I do like to peek through Pinterest and a few blogs every so often. One interiors trend I have been really loving is marble. Since I can't change the countertops in my rental, I'm setting for a cheeseboard and some marble print items for my closet instead.

FRIDAY LINKS

Hello Weekend!

Three day weekends are best, because the work week is extra short. This week flew by, and for the weekend I'm heading down to LA.  On the agenda: exploring DTLA, sipping drinks in the sun, and a birthday celebration for my wonderful grandpa. He's 94!! As with every time I head down to Southern California, I am overwhelmed with excitement to see my family and my friends.

YAY OR NAY: BLANKET CAPES

While I have a complete and total infatuation with structured capes, I just can't seem to jump on board with the blanket cape. But I'm torn! On one hand, it really does look like a blanket wrapped around you. Like I was watching Netflix on the couch and couldn't find my jacket before I left type of look. Too bulky and unflattering. I also think I would be constantly adjusting it and pulling it up around my shoulders.

But then, I occasionally see photos where I really like it.  The photo of Kathleen above is a great example, as the cape looks chic and cozy but not too big and drapey. This mostly has to do with the length and size of the cape.

I guess my biggest beef with this look is that you completely lose the shape of your body. This is one of those pieces that must be absolutely perfect in all it's proportions in order to keep from overwhelming your frame.  For the time being, it's a Nay for my closet. But who knows? I have a feeling blanket capes will be around for quite a few more years.

Plus I could use one to keep warm in my office!

POSTGRAD LOVES: VRAI & ORO

I like to stay on the hunt for new brands, especially ones that fit right into my postgrad budget. I kept hearing the name Vrai & Oro pop up in different articles, blog posts, and conversations, so I finally took a look at the brand for myself. Similar to Everlane or Cuyana, they cut out the middle man to eliminate huge markups on their products. The end result? Beautiful, simple pieces at affordable prices. Oh, and did I mention diamonds? Diamonds people, DIAMONDS.

A simple diamond necklace has been on my wishlist for awhile now, and I think the diamond solitaire necklace below perfectly fits the bill. Now the question is, yellow or rose gold?

GET THE LOOK: HOME OFFICE

I came across this room on Pinterest (duh), and I really liked the color scheme. Especially cause the walls are just about the same color as my bedding right now, and I'm slowly working on my room. You can see the whole room makeover on The Daily Nest. I really loved the office corner in particular, especially how she used the outdoor stool as a little side table. I'm loving campaign tables right now, so in my version I swapped out the desk, and added some colorful prints from Lulu & Georgia.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

2014, you were great.

You were full of countless happy moments, and a few trying times, but the great parts considerably outweighed the rough patches. I cannot even explain the amount of gratitude that I felt in the last year.  I am looking forward to moving into 2015 with a full and happy heart.

I hope all of you have a healthy, happy New Year. Cheers!
